Rob Burrow and friends continue to inspire us all
Leeds Rhinos legend Rob Burrow MBE gave fans an update on his fight with motor neurone disease in a new piece with BBC Breakfast’s Sally Nugent on Monday morning as he caught up with his pals Stephen Darby and Doddie Weir, who are both battling MND as well.
Burrow, who now uses Eyegaze to communicate after losing the use of his own voice, spoke about the inspiration he has received from the many well wishers and fundraisers who have answered his call for wider acknowledgement and research for MND over the last year.
The socially distanced meet up took place in West Yorkshire and followed up the first meeting between the trio back in February 2020 up in Edinburgh, a matter of weeks after Burrow had received his own diagnosis. In the interview, he spoke about how former Liverpool and Bradford City footballer Stephen Darby regularly texts him with tips and advice about the treatments he has been using whilst Rob describes former Scottish and British Lion lock Doddie Weir as ‘Uncle Doddie’.
