Top Five Super League Moments vs Hull FC

Leeds Rhinos v Hull Engage Super League Fri 6th june 2008 Scott Donald baffles Danny Houghton on his way to scoring a long range try

Leeds and Hull FC meet at Emerald Headingley this Sunday as the Rhinos look to build on their golden point extra time win over Wakefield while Brett Hodgson’s side hope to continue their winning run.

Ahead of the match, here is a trip down memory lane with a look back at five of the top moments from previous Super League League clashes between the sides.

5. 1999 – Former black and white Jackson helps Rhinos survive Hull fightback

With a Challenge Cup Final on the horizon, the Rhinos returned home following a six point loss to Sheffield Eagles to face Hull Sharks. Although the game started slowly, a try from Leroy Rivett, following two Iestyn Harris penalty goals, gave Leeds the advantage. Another Harris penalty extended Leeds’ lead to two points before former Hull hooker Lee Jackson used a quick play of the ball from Anthony Farrell to his benefit, running out of dummy half and scoring. Rivett would put the game out of site with another try, although the black and whites did fight back to close the score to 22-18 by full time.

4. 2012 – Rhinos stay fifth with three try blitzing

Nearly two inches of rain fell on the Headingley Carnegie pitch for Leeds’ clash with Hull in 2012 but the ground staff did an outstanding job to get the pitch playable as Brian McDermott’s side beat the visitors 21-6. On a four match winning streak in the League, Leeds were unstoppable; Carl Ablett and Ryan Hall scoring tries. There was also a rare try for Brett Delaney, who crossed the whitewash for a fourth time that season.

3. 1998 – Braces for Morley and Sterling see Leeds passed Sharks

When Leeds and Hull met for the first time in Super League in 1998, two tries from Adrian Morley and Paul Sterling saw the Rhinos to their first win over the black and whites on home soil. Morley in particular took his try tally up to nine with his two tries in an excellent display from the back rower.

2. 2008 – Donald helps inspire Rhinos revival

Leeds Rhinos overcame a major scare to maintain their six point lead at the top of the table to beat Hull FC in 2008. The Rhinos trailed 18-0 midway through the first half but fought back with a sensational display of attacking rugby to win 38-22 including a wonderful solo effort by Scott Donald.

1. 2005 – Senior hat trick inspires Leeds win

During the 2005 season, Keith Senior was one of the Rhinos’ most inform players as the centre scored his highest number of tries in a season. Coming into Leeds’ round 16 matchup with Hull, Senior was on fire, scoring his second hat trick of that season as the Rhinos went on to win 34-14. The centre currently holds the record for the most tries scored by a Leeds player against the black and whites with 18 tries.
