ON THIS DAY in 1997 Leeds played their first game of Super League that year against Oldham Bears and won 32-22. Already in the season Leeds had played three games in the Challenge Cup and had won each of them and then in this game continued their 100% start to the year. Richie Blackmore scored a brace and Wayne Collins, Adrian Morley, Paul Sterling and Francis Cummins all added one apiece.
Cummins scored the rest of the points with four goals to give the side a 32-22 win. On this day in 2001 Leeds played Wakefield and won 42-14. Tonie Carroll was the star man for the Rhinos, having joined the club at the beginning of the year Carroll scored his first hat trick for the team and then added a fourth to help confirm the win. Karl Pratt scored a brace for the third game running and Francis Cummins and Chev Walker scored a try each. Iestyn Harris helped confirm the win with 5 goals.
