Season update from Chief Executive Gary Hetherington
Looking ahead to the weekend when we play our pre-season friendly against Huddersfield Giants and shortly following that the start of a new Betfred Super League Season, our CEO, Gary Hetherington delivers a message full of admiration, optimism, and excitement.
‘’Although our 2021 season will begin without crowds, as we have already promised, our members will not be disadvantaged and as soon as we have certainty, we’ll be back in touch with more information. Our 2021 Members packs have now been sent out and should be landing over the next few days.
I am in admiration for the way everyone in our Club has contributed greatly to help us navigate the difficulties of 2020. As I’ve said before, the efforts and sacrifices from our players, staff, sponsors, suppliers, members and fans has been exemplary and a real team effort.
But we can be optimistic about returning to Emerald Headingley in the not-too-distant future and re-creating our marvellous match day atmosphere. We have had a lot of interest from former fans who didn’t renew their memberships during our stadium development and are planning to return, so hopefully we can look forward to seeing past and present fans cheering the team on together!
Whilst it is really disappointing news on Jack Walker and Rob Lui, I know Kevin and Richard believe several of our youngsters are ready to break through and newcomers, Zane Tetevano, King Vuniyayawa and Kyle Eastmond will certainly add some sparkle to our team.
The season will then climax with a World Cup Tournament, featuring the Men, Women and Wheelchair Competitions for the first time and this will provide a big festival of Rugby League during October and November. We are delighted to be hosting some big games at Emerald Headingley, including the Women’s Tournament Opening Ceremony and England Women v. Brazil.
There are definitely events and occasions in our calendar to be excited about and although we have all had a challenging 12 months, we look forward to a spectacular year of Rugby League! I look forward to seeing you all again soon.’’
