World Cup Wednesdays: Long looking forward to World Cup celebration for players and fans alike

Each Wednesday in the build up the 2021 Rugby League World Cups, we will have a special feature as we build up to the biggest ever World Cup in the game’s history looking at those who helped create the legacy and who will be aiming to make their own history this Autumn.

In our latest edition, we caught up with current Leeds Rhinos Assistant Coach Sean Long who told us he crowds will be back in force later this year for the Rugby League World Cup as he recalled a memorable night at Emerald Headingley back in 2000 when he was part of the England side that defeated Ireland in a titanic World Cup Quarter Final.

Over 15,000 packed out Emerald Headingley that night to see a real ‘mate against mate’ clash as the best players in Super League went head to head in the final eight of the World Cup. The Irish will return to Emerald Headingley at the World Cup in 2021 with the Emerald Isle taking on Jamaica and New Zealand in the pool stages.
