On this Day – 2nd February

ON THIS DAY in 2008 Brian McClennan took charge of his first game for the Rhinos and saw Danny McGuire seal a great fight back for the Rhinos after Lee Smith had scored two earlier tries in a 20-12 win for the Champions.

The Rhinos had trailed 12-4 after two tries from Hull KR’s new signing Jake Webster looked like it had set up an opening day shock. However, Leeds dominated the last quarter of the game and Smith’s double along with a last gasp effort by McGuire gave Brian McClennan a perfect start to his career as Leeds coach.

ON THIS DAY in 2019 Leeds began their season away against Warrington Wolves. It was a miserable start for the team, with Stevie Ward the only scorer for the Rhinos in a 26-6 defeat.

The game saw Konrad Hurrell and James Donaldson both make their debuts but it was a disappoitnting start for the team, with three first half tries from Warrington Wolves meaning Leeds Rhinos left themselves a mountain to climb in the opening game of the 2019 Betfred Super League season as last year’s beaten Grand Finalists got off to a winning start in front of their own fans at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
