On this Day – 31st January

Paul Medley races through to score in the corner in the 1988 Yorkshire Cup Final win over Castleford.

On the 31st January in 1982 Leeds played Hull KR and in 1988 Paul Medley scored a hat trick for Leeds to see the side into the next round of the Challenge Cup.

ON THIS DAY in 1982 Leeds played Hull KR for the second time that season. In the first match Les Dyl was the Loiners only try scorer in their 14-7 defeat to Hull KR and coming into this game Leeds had lost their previous game to Barrow 14-10. Neil Hague though helped the side back to winning ways in this clash though with a hat trick, Dave Heron added a brace and John Holmes scored the sixth try of the game.  Kevin Dick landed 3 goals to bring the final score to 24-8.

ON THIS DAY in 1988 Paul Medley scored a hat trick for Leeds to see the side into the next round of the Challenge Cup. In the preliminary round Leeds had seen off Kells 28-0 and in this first round clash they faced local rivals Castleford. Garry Schofield also scored a try and David Stephenson added three goals to see the Loiners win 22-14, setting up a second round tie against Wigan.
