ON THIS DAY in 1952, Leeds legend Keith McLellan made his Leeds debut against Doncaster, The Australian centre joined the Loiners on a seven year deal after former Leeds player Frank O’Rourke had recommended him. He proved to be a massive hit and an inspirational captain.
In this game Keith’s performance was one of the few highlights of the game. Keith was a try scorer, but the Loiners were defeated in the game 11-6. Alongside Lewis Jones the two formed the perfect partnership, helping the side to Yorkshire League Championship and the Challenge Cup in the 1956-57 season. Throughout his career at Leeds Keith played 215 games, scored 217 points.
