1994 - Leeds Rugby players

On this day in 1989 Leeds progressed to the next round of the Challenge Cup after victory over Hunslet and in 1994 an Ellery Hanley hat trick helped Leeds defeat Bradford.

ON THIS DAY in 1989 Leeds played Hunslet in the Preliminary round of the Challenge Cup.  Leeds had already collected silverware that season with Yorkshire Cup victory over Castleford and were looking to improve on last seasons performance in the Challenge Cup when they had been knocked out in the second round by Wigan.

In this game John Bentley helped the Loiners comfortably progress to the next round with two tries and Ray Ashton, Paul Dixon, Phil Ford and Carl Gibson all added a try each.

David Stephenson, who was the teams leading points scorer added the rest of the points with four goals, to bring the final score to 32-6.

ON THIS DAY in 1994 Ellery Hanley scored a hat trick of tries to help the Loiners to a 46-30 win over their local rivals Bradford Northern. Garry Schofield also added a brace of tries and Richard Eyres, Craig Innes and Gary Mercer scored one apiece. Graham Holroyd was on kicking duty and landed six goals to give the Loiners their fifteenth win of the season.
