ON THIS DAY in 1953 former Leeds captain and coach David Ward was born.

Ward made his debut for his hometown club in 1971 against Bramley and he went on to make 482 appearances and score 143 points.

The former Shaw Cross hooker became a Championship winner with Leeds aged just 18, almost a year into his first season. During an incredible career in blue and amber he won two Challenge Cups, two Regal Trophies and five Yorkshire Cups.

Ward was inducted into the Leeds Hall of Fame in 2017.
