On this Day – 3rd December

ON THIS DAY in 2002 Kevin Sinfield became the captain of Leeds Rhinos. Aged 22, Sinfeld became the youngest ever captain in the club’s history when he was handed the armband by Daryl Powell in 2002.

Sinfield went onto become the most successful captain in the club’s history, making 521 appearances and scoring a record 3967 points. He won his first piece of silverware with the club in 2004 when he led the team to their first Championship win in 32 years. In total he won seven Grand Finals, two Challenge Cups, three World Club Challenges and three League Leaders Shields.

ON THIS DAY in 1966 Leeds bounced back from defeat against Oldham to earn a convincing 34-8 win against Bramley. Leeds had made a great start to the 1966-67 campaign with 14 from 16 wins heading into this game.

Alan Smith scored his first tries of the season, crossing for a brace, and former Wakefield scrum half Ken Rollin, Bernard Watson, South African loose forward Louis Neumann and Harry Poole got the rest.
