Mayor of Greater Manchester backs Sinfield’s 7 in 7 Challenge

Andy Burnham

Leeds Rhinos legend Kevin Sinfield will set off on his epic 7 in 7 marathon challenge in aid of friend Rob Burrow and the MNDA on Tuesday with five of the seven marathons near his home in Oldham and he has received the backing of the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham.

As well as being a former Cabinet member, Burnham was the RFL President in 2018 and has given Sinfield his support for the week long challenge.

Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, said: “Seven marathons in seven days up in the hills of Oldham is not for the faint-hearted but if there was ever someone who could tackle a feat like this then surely it’s Kevin Sinfield.

“To see Kevin stepping forward to support his friend Rob Burrows is genuinely inspiring and moving. Their formidable partnership gave huge joy to millions over their glittering careers and it is great to see them teaming up again to fight this cruel disease.

“MND has no known cure.  By supporting Kevin’s 7 in 7 challenge, we can all help Rob and his young family but also fund research into MND.

“I hope all of Greater Manchester and the entire Rugby League family will get behind Kevin this week as he undertakes this herculean challenge for such a great cause.”
