On the 28th November in 1959 Leeds took on St Helens in the league and in 1964 Featherstone ended Leeds’ winning run with a 15-3 win.
ON THIS DAY in 1959 Leeds played at Headingley against St Helens and despite coming into the game having lost their last home fixture against Keighley and their last league game against Swinton, on this occasion they beat Saints 24-11.
Lewis Jones scored a brace of tries and six goals in the game and Don Robinson and Derek Hallas added a try apiece to bring the final score to 24-11.
ON THIS DAY in 1964 Featherstone ended Leeds’ winning run with a 15-3 win at Headingley. The Loiners had won their last three league games but on this occasion it was to be their local rivals who proved to be the better of the teams.
Mick Shoebottom, who was the side’s leading try scorer behind Ronnie Cowan so far that season, scored his eighth of this campaign, but this was to be the only points his side could manage in the game.
