On this Day – 20th November
On the 20th November in years gone by Leeds have been in action against Hull KR in the John Player Special competition and Warrington in the league.
ON THIS DAY in 1983 Leeds played Hull KR in the second round of the John Player Special competition. The season prior to this one Leeds had managed to make it all the way to the final of the competition, but had lost out to Wigan at Elland Road in the decider.
This tome round they once again had started well, beating Blackpool 12-9 in the first round. This game saw Ian Wilkinson and Dean Bell both scored one try each for the Loiners and David Creasser sealed the win with two conversions, bringing the final score to 12-6 and setting up a third round tie against Swinton.
ON THIS DAY in 1988 Leeds were in action in the league, losing out to Warrington at Headingley. Already that season the Loiners had captured the Yorkshire Cup against Castleford, but had been knocked out of the John Player Special competition by the same opposition a week prior to this fixture.
Leeds had only been defeated twice so far in the league, the first of these losses coming at home against Widnes, followed by defeat on the road against Hull. In this fixture Gary Spencer and Cliff Lyons both touched down for a try each but this was to be the only points Leeds could manage, with Warrington scoring 22 points to the Loiners 8.
