Game by Numbers: Wakefield Trinity

The Rhinos travel to the Totally Wicked Stadium on Thursday night to take on Wakefield Trinity in the first of back to back fixtures against Chris Chester’s side.

Since the two sides met for the first time in Super League in 1999, Leeds have won the most League games (40 out of 51). That total includes 18 victories at Emerald Headingley in particular, whereas Wakefield have only won five times when they've been the away side.

Rob Burrow has been the most lethal Rhinos player against Wakefield, scoring 21 Super League tries. The half back, who has scored 118 points against Trinity in all competitions, was unstoppable in 2015, scoring tries in every meeting with Wakefield.

Ben Jones-Bishop surpassed 150 career tries last Sunday in Wakefield's 48-18 win over Hull KR. His hat trick in that game took Jones-Bishop to 64 for Trinity while the winger has also scored 16 tries for Salford, 11 for Harlequins, 2 each for Jamaica and England Knights and 56 for Leeds.

The Rhinos recorded their biggest win over Wakefield in 2011. Ryan Hall scored a hat trick in the 64-20 win and there was further tries for Carl Ablett, two for Danny McGuire, Jamie Peacock, Lee Smith, Danny Buderus, Ben Jones-Bishop and Ali Lauitiiti, who joined Trinity in 2012.

Only two current players across Leeds and Wakefield's squads have played for both teams. Ben Jones-Bishop came through the Rhinos academy before signing for Trinity in 2016 while Jay Pitts was signed by Leeds from Wakefield in 2010 and spent three years at Headingley.

Andrew Dunemann's drop goal against Wakefield at Headingley in 2003 helped the Rhinos keep alive their unbeaten start to the Super League season. With the score locked up at 12 all with minutes remaining, the Leeds hooker stepped up to slot the one pointer.

Tom Johnstone continued his electric start to the 2019 season by scoring three tries against Leeds at Emerald Headingley. The winger doubled his tally for the season, scoring a hat trick inside of eleven minutes to help Chris Chester's side to a 35-18 win.

Between 2007 and 2015, Leeds were unbeaten at home against Wakefield. Winning a total of 10 games, the Rhinos recorded their biggest win over Trinity, a Play Off win and seven 40+ scores.

Richie Myler is only four points away from reaching 500 Super League points. Having scored 44 points for his first club Salford, Myler scored most of his points during five year at Warrington Wolves (279). He has also registered 88 points for Catalans and currently has at 85 for the Rhinos.

Ben Thaler will officiate Leeds and Wakefield for the fourth time on Thursday afternoon. He last refereed Wakefield's visit to Leeds back 2011, when the Rhinos won 64-20, while he has also officiated Leeds' trip to the Mobile Rocket Stadium twice in 2013 and 2017.
