On this Day – 19th September

ON THIS DAY in 1976 former Leeds player Marcus Vassilakopoulos was born. Marcus joined Leeds in 1993 from Hull ARL and in his debut season made 21 appearances and scored 2 tries. In total he played 45 times for Leeds, leaving in 1997 after making just four appearances in Super League. With Leeds he became the youngest ever forward to play in a cup final when he ran out with the team in the 1994 Challenge Cup final. After he left Leeds he played for Hunslet and Sheffield Eagles and then moved to America to play rugby league for the Central Coast before moving onto play for the Glen Mills Bulls. Marcus is now an American citizen and has gone on to represent the USA in rugby league. Since retiring from the game Marcus has moved into refereeing in the American League.

ON THIS DAY in 1993 Francis Cummins made his debut for Leeds against Hull KR. A Leeds great and former captain, he played 356 times for the teamand set a club record for consecutive appearances for Leeds at the end of 2003 with 178 appearances and is the ninth highest try scorer in the club’s history with 188 tries.

He was a Challenge Cup winner in 1999 and part of the team who won the League Leaders Shield in 2004.
