ON THIS DAY in 1927 club legend Frank Gallagher made his debut against St Helens.

The loose forward, who has heritage number 491 scored 30 points in 78 appearances for the club and won the Yorkshire League and Yorkshire League Cup with the team.

In his debut Leeds lost 17-11 to St Helens Recs, with Frank O’Rourke scoring his team’s only try.

ON THIS DAY in 1999 Leeds lost 14-38 in the play offs to St Helens. Leeds tries came from Lee Jackson and Iestyn Harris.

Reflecting on the game Graham Murray said: “Although we were below par at Saints, our consistency throughout enables us to have another chance against Castleford and we’ve played pretty well all year to have that right.

We didn’t deserve the win at Knowlsey Road but if there was a positive it was that for around sixty five minutes we scrambled and hung in there. If we had got our noses in front I think we might have got them but at the back end we were punished for our earlier sins.

ON THIS DAY in 2004 Headingley was in a celebratory mood as 17,329 witnessed Leeds defeat London 42-14 and lift the League Leaders Shield.

ON THIS DAY in 2015 Leeds lost out 29-22 to Castleford Tigers at Headingley Carnegie despite two first-half tries from Ryan Hall which meant they faced a nervous final day at Huddersfield Giants to see if they would finish the season at League Leaders.
