On This Day – 14th September

ON THIS DAY in 1912 club great J ‘Dinny’ Campbell made his debut against Keighley.

In his book the Headingley Story Ken Dalby spoke about the signing of the Australian and the impact he made.

Cambell, who was born at Penrith near Sydney, is still revered on the terraces at Headingley and those who were privileged to see this great player and sportsman in action never fail to remind those who were not so fortunate.

ON THIS DAY in 2007 the Rhinos the Rhinos ran out comfortable winners at Headingley Carnegie with a 46-4 win over Wakefield in the final game of the regular season.

Leeds hit the ground running and after several waves of pressure, Brent Webb danced through the onrushing defence before passing to Danny McGuire who burst through to score. Kevin Sinfield converted, to make it 6-0 after five minutes.

ON THIS DAY in 2013 Leeds travelled to the Halliwell Jones Stadium looking to secure top seeding for the Grand Final Qualification game but faced a side who were desperate to win their first Super League title

Kevin Sinfield, Kallum Watkins and Zak Hardaker all scored for the Rhinos but the Wolves earned a convincing 40-20 victory.

ON THIS DAY 2018 Leeds left it late to seal an 18-16 victory against Salford Red Devils but it made for an exciting game of rugby league between the two teams.
