On this Day – 9th September
ON THIS DAY in 1986 former Leeds player Jordan Tansey was born. The Leeds born player was signed for the Leeds Academy from Whinmoor Warriors and made his first-team debut in 2006.
He scored 21 tries in 52 appearances and may best be remembered at Leeds for this memorable moment against Bradford at the Magic Weekend.
Jordan spent time on loan with Sydney Roosters and after leaving Leeds joined Hull FC, Dewsbury, Crusaders, York City Knights, Castleford, Wakefield, Huddersfield and Workington.
ON THIS DAY in 2006 despite two tries from Scott Donald and Clinton Toopi’s first for the club, Leeds suffered an embarrassing 54-18 defeat at Knowsley Road.
ON THIS DAY in 2012 the Rhinos had a bitterly disappointing afternoon at the John Smith’s Stadium as they lost out 48-24 to 12 men Huddersfield in the final game of the regular season.
ON THIS DAY in 2016 Batley Bulldogs made their first visit to Headingley Carnegie in 39 years and received a standing ovation for their superbly spirited performance, as the part-timers made Leeds fight for every point in front of over 15,000 at Headingley.
John Kear’s men showed an abundance of resilience and desire, scrambling back on numerous occasions to keep Leeds to 16 points, and three tries, in each half, but tries from Tom Briscoe, Kallum Watkins, Ryan Hall and Rob Burrow secured the 32-0 win.
ON THIS DAY in 2018 Leeds left it late to seal an 18-16 victory against Salford Red Devils but it made for an exciting game of rugby league between the two teams.
With just 50 seconds remaining Salford conceded a penalty which gave Liam Sutcliffe the chance to win the game. He did exactly that as his kick sailed between the sticks and the game finished 18-16.
