Ruth Walker RIP

It was with much sadness that the club learned of the passing of one of our most loyal fans, Ruth Walker, after a long battle with illness. Ruth gave tireless support to the club she loved over so many years and will be sadly missed by all of us.

Ruth was a lifelong supporter, who played a key role in the fans group ‘Headingley Is Home’ that fought off plans to sell Headingley in the nineties; organising rallies and meetings to help ensure Leeds were able to stay at their iconic home.

Her passion for the club was clear to all who knew her and when the South Stand was refurbished in 2000, she was proud to be asked by the club to reopen it.  For many years Ruth also dedicated her time to looking after the Memorial Garden at the stadium before ill health struck.

Leeds Rhinos Chief Executive Gary Hetherington, paid tribute to Ruth: “Ruth was a lovely lady who along with others in the 1990s played a key role to ensure Headingley remained the home for Leeds RL and YCC.

“She was a lifelong and passionate fan who supported the team through thick and thin and until recently worked tirelessly on our Memorial Garden at the Stadium.  Ruth will be sadly missed and our condolences are with her family and friends.”
