Leeds Rhinos squad to support Leeds Big Sleep
Players from the Leeds Rhinos squad will be showing their support for volunteers taking part in the Leeds big Sleep at Emerald Headingley on Thursday 28th November to raise money for three Leeds charities.
The initiative, now in its third year, sees volunteers from across the city coming together for a huge fundraising event to support some of the city’s most vulnerable people.
Members of the squad will welcome volunteers to the stadium and members of the coaching staff will be spending the night sleeping on the terraces at Emerald Headingley Stadium to raise money for vulnerable communities whilst also highlighting the plight of homeless people across the city.
Leeds Rhinos Foundation, St George’s Crypt and St Gemma’s Hospice will be the beneficiaries of the fundraising event, which last year raised more than £32,000 won the Fundraising Partnership of the Year Award at the 2019 Institute of Fundraising (IoF) Yorkshire Awards.
Richard Agar, Head Coach of Leeds Rhinos, said: “This is an amazing cause which the team are happy to support. With the temperatures beginning to drop as we approach winter I know it will be a challenging night for all the volunteers, but we also know these are the conditions that many people across the country face each night and hopefully money raised will help St George’s Crypt in their efforts to tackle this.
“Our own charity Leeds Rhinos Foundation is also doing some fantastic work to support people in our community through their health, education and sports projects and they are really making a difference to people’s lives.
“St Gemma’s Hospice is a charity that means so much to the people of Leeds. They have supported so many people and families going through the most difficult of times, so we are proud that money raised from this event will also go to funding their incredible organisation.”
