Team mates pay tribute to Forsell
Leeds Rhinos Women v Castleford Tigers Women During the Women's Challenge Cup Final 2018 at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, Warrington, Cheshire
Following the announcement of her retirement, Lois Forsell’s Leeds Rhinos team mates paid tribute their club captain.
To push aside her own battles over the last twelve months and focus on the team is a reflection of the person and leader she is. Her contribution to our success over the last two years can’t be measured; she’s been the heartbeat of this team!
I wouldn’t be in the position that I am in now if it wasn’t for Lois in terms of my rugby and being selected for England was all down to her pushing me and supporting me! Fozzy is an amazing person and so passionate about the growth of the women’s and girls game and will be a massive loss to the team
She has been a fantastic leader for the squad whether she has been the on or off field captain. She was a bit of a scary one at times on field but you did as she said and didn’t ask questions.
She knows the game like the back of her hand and we would all stand by her decisions because they were always the right ones. She’s been committed to getting back on track, and has always seemed positive even when she will of been struggling to come to terms with her injury. She was a firm foundation of the “Rehab Club” & helped a lot of girls with their own injuries. She has always been there to offer advice and support, and sometimes give us motivation if needed.
It’s a really sad announcement We are all devastated for her but hopefully we can get round her and support her like she has us throughout our time at the club. She will always be part of the women’s team even if that means not playing. I know She will remain passionate for the squad and the club as a whole. There’s only one Lois Forsell
Lois is a legend of the game and still continues to be a massive part of Leeds Rhinos. Personally for me, without Lois I wouldn’t have even gotten to the U19s trail so without her I wouldn’t of made the squad so I am forever grateful.
Lois is the best leader and player I’ve had the pleasure of playing alongside. She an inspiration to, not just the team, but young girls all over Leeds. Through the hard times Lois still puts the team first and is there for everyone just showing how much of a selfless, amazing person she is.
If I could say anything about Lois it would be that she has the sweetest soul off the field but the toughest on. She’ll be sorely missed but she’s made her mark on many different pitches and a credit to the growth of the women’s game. She is the truest and most genuine leader I have the privilege of knowing.
Lois is by far one of the greatest players in our game. Lois is not always a woman of many words but she has always led on the pitch by example! She loves being successful in everything she does and her value to a team is off the scale! She has a better work/game ethic than anyone I’ve ever known and since playing alongside Lois from 2015, I have learnt to be a better player because I have been led so well around the pitch by her!
The loss on the pitch is massive, but what Lois does best is inspire anyone and everyone around her, even her teammates! She was my rock during the World Cup in 2017 and is the reason I’m still playing today because she instilled so much confidence in my role and how I play and I will be forever grateful!
She has inspired so many young girls and is such a valuable member of our team, even off the pitch and that shows her strength in character and her ability to influence us all in the best way! I will miss being told off by her, I will miss watching her incredible skill and vision in action but I will mostly miss her words of wisdom on the pitch in the most difficult of times!
In the seven years I have known Lois has been a massive inspiration and a very dear friend to me. I’m absolutely heartbroken at her situation. Lois wasn’t just our captain at Leeds Rhinos Women, she IS Leeds Rhinos Women. She’s so much more than just a rugby player and will continue to shine regardless!
Because of Lois I was given the opportunity to play rugby for the first time, she has supported me and the team throughout our journey at Leeds and her involvement as staff next season will be a massive addition to the girls. She is not only a player and sister to us but she is our drive and fire when we need it. Lucky to have you pal. ALL IN.
Lois sees the best in everyone. She’s give everything and doesn’t ask for anything in return. she’s always told me “It’s not where you start it’s where you finish” and that will stick with me forever. Everyone has your back every step of the way what ever happens. We love you Lois.
Lois is somebody who I have looked up to since I was young. She is truly amazing and an inspiration to others. Her vision of the game is incredible, she has had, and continues to have a massive influence on our team. Throughout her injury, Lois has shown nothing but strength and perseverance and has always put the team first no matter what because that’s the type of person that Lois is. She is a great role model and ambassador of the women’s game and will continue to inspire the next generation of female rugby players.
