Leeds Rhinos Women’s Academy 16 Huddersfield Women 14
The Leeds Rhinos Rhinos Women’s Academy took on Huddersfield, who are third in Women’s championship in their fourth game of the season at Oulton Raiders.
Leeds took the lead in the first half, thanks to a try from Ellena Powell, which Holme converted.
Huddersfield turned up the pace in the second half scoring three times, but Leeds fought till the end and managed to claw back two tries with Mia Clarke and Maisie James crossing.
Conversions from Sam Hulme proved important, with her two from three successful kicks give Leeds a two point lead for the remaining 10 minutes.
Leeds were forced to show good defence on their line as the Giants had repeat sets to try and get some points back, but the home side held out however and won the game 16-14.
Academy Coach, Matty Bullough said: “We’ve had some tough tests in the last couple of months against good Women’s teams so we’ve been working hard on how to be competitive in those kind of games in certain areas and we put that into practice against Huddersfield and got the result.
“We had more composure about us and controlled the game well, we dug in when we needed to and did the tough stuff well. There were good performances across the whole squad and that’s off the back of how well they have been training.”
