Five Classic Clashes vs Catalans Dragons

As the Rhinos prepare to face off against the Catalans Dragons for a second time at Emerald Headingley this season, we take a look back at more memorable fixtures against the French outfit over the last thirteen years.

2009 – Leeds Rhinos 42 Catalans Dragons 14

The Rhinos continued their unbeaten home record against the Dragons at the start of the 2009 season. Two tries from Ryan Hall and other scores from Jamie Jones-Buchanan, Danny McGuire, Brent Webb, Ashley Gibson, Carl Ablett and Matt Diskin ensured that Leeds stayed top of the Super League.

2011 – Leeds Rhinos 30 Catalans Dragons 6

Leeds had to battle to victory in 2011, after only leading 6-0 after 40 minutes thanks to Ryan Hall. Kylie Leuluai and Ian Henderson exchanged tries early in the second half before the home side ran away with the result; two tries from Zak Hardaker and one from Rob Burrow sealing an eighth win of the season.

2013 – Leeds Rhinos 20 Catalans Dragons 12

Leeds claimed a hard fought victory over the Dragons in their final home match of the 2013 season. Ryan Hall opened the scoring for Leeds before Lopini Paea and Olivier Elima gave the visitors the lead. A Mitch Achurch try and a last minute try from Danny McGuire sealed the win for the Rhinos.

2014 – Leeds Rhinos 32 Catalans Dragons 31

A dramatic last minute penalty made this one of the most memorable fixtures between the Rhinos and Dragons.

In a closely fought contest with tries from Ryan Hall, Ben Jones-Bishop, Josh Walters, Carl Ablett and Joel Moon the Dragons looked like they were heading for a victory after a late Morgan Escare drop goal, but then Liam Sutcliffe stepped up to make a pressure kick in the final minute….

2015 – Leeds Rhinos 36 Catalans Dragons 22

In the treble winning season, Tom Briscoe returned from injury to score a hat trick against the Catalans Dragons in a 36-22 win. The winger scored twice to match Tony Gigot and Morgan Escare’s tries before Mitch Garbutt gave Leeds the lead at half time. Kallum Watkins, Brett Delaney and a third from Briscoe sealed the win, keeping Leeds top of the ladder.
