Rhinos swoop for Red Devil Lui

Leeds Rhinos have signed half back Robert Lui on loan for the remainder of the 2019 Betfred Super League season and agreed a two year contract with the 29-year-old from 2020.

The Rhinos have paid an undisclosed loan fee to the Red Devils with Tongan international Tui Lolohea moving in the opposite direction.

Lui has spent four seasons at the AJ Bell Stadium making over 100 appearances for the Red Devils and scoring 31 tries in the process. He has previously played in the NRL with Wests Tigers and North Queensland Cowboys having made his debut as a teenager in the NRL.  He joins the Rhinos with immediate effect and will be in Richard Agar’s 19 man squad to face Catalans Dragons this Sunday at Emerald Headingley Stadium.

Commenting on the signing, Director of Rugby Kevin Sinfield said, “We are pleased to have brought a half back of Robert’s experience into our squad for this season and the next two years. He has proven his quality in Super League over the last four seasons and I know the players are looking forward to working with him. I would like to thank Ian Blease and Ian Watson at Salford for their co-operation throughout the process and we wish Tui Lolohea all the best with his move to the AJ Bell Stadium.”

Commenting on signing for the Rhinos Lui said, “It is great to be here. I can’t wait to pull on the Leeds jersey and run out at Emerald Headingley. Having spoken with Richard Agar, I know what he wants from me for the team and I am looking forward to the challenge here at the Rhinos.”
