Leeds Rhinos Head Coach Dave Furner says he is looking forward to seeing his players in action for the first time since arriving at the club when they take on Wakefield Trinity at Emerald Headingley Stadium in the Wetherby Whaler Festive Challenge on Boxing Day, kick off 11.30am.

Furner says he has been impressed with his players attitude in pre-season and believes that those players who get a chance on Boxing Day will be relishing the opportunity to show him the hard work on the training field is paying off.

He commented, “Our pre-season training has gone well with the boys showing dedication and commitment to make the most of this period of the year.  It has been good to see how the new players have integrated into the group. There is still lots that we are working on ahead of the start of the season but we are definitely moving in the right direction.

“Trent Merrin will unfortunately miss out on Boxing Day with a hip injury that we don’t want to risk; it is a mark of him as a competitor that he was keen to play but it is a long season and we want to make sure he is ready to go come Warrington in Round One. Having said that, we have a very strong side out and it will be good to see how they go,” added Furner.
