Leeds Rhinos confirm pre-season plans
Leeds Rhinos have confirmed their pre-season schedule ahead of the 2019 Betfred Super League season with home games against Wakefield and Castleford at Emerald Headingley and trips to Doncaster, Coventry, Featherstone and Hunslet.
The Dave Furner-era will kick off on Boxing Day, 26th December, when the Rhinos face Wakefield Trinity at Emerald Headingley, kick off 11.30am.
This will be followed on 13th January with a trip to the Keepmoat Stadium to face Doncaster, kick off 3pm and five days later by a return to the Butts Park Arena to take on Coventry on Friday 18th January, kick off 7.30pm after last year’s successful inaugural game against the Bears.
Dave Furner will get to see his full first team squad in action ahead of the start the season when Leeds welcome Castleford Tigers to Emerald Headingley on Sunday 20th January for Kallum Watkins’ testimonial game, kick off 3pm.
A week later the Rhinos will travel to Featherstone on Sunday 27th January, kick off 3pm, followed by the annual Harry Jepson OBE Memorial Cup against Hunslet at South Leeds Stadium on Sunday 3rd February, kick off 3pm.
The Rhinos kick off their Betfred Super League campaign on Saturday 2nd February at Warrington Wolves.
Leeds Rhinos Chief Executive Gary Hetherington commented, “We are pleased to welcome our local rivals from Wakefield and Castleford for two fantastic games to the new look Emerald Headingley Stadium. With the South Stand now fully open it will make for two special occasions. The Wetherby Whaler Festive Challenge on Boxing Day is a match all fans look forward to and Rhinos fans will get to see Konrad Hurrell, Tui Lolohea and Callum McLelland in action in blue and amber. Likewise our game against Castleford will be a highlight of Kallum Watkins thoroughly deserved Testimonial year.
“Dave Furner will be keen to see all the players in his squad in action and the other games in pre-season will be vital in allowing the whole squad to show what they can do to try and impress our new Head Coach. Each game will build on the great relationships we have with those clubs which has produced some entertaining encounters in recent years,” added Hetherington.
