Minutes applause before kick off on Friday

As with all games across the sport this weekend there will be a minute’s applause before kick-off on Friday night in respect of Clinton Maxwell Blakeley, aged 33, the Birkenshaw Rugby League player who became unwell at a Yorkshire Men’s League fixture against Heworth last weekend and tragically passed away. Our thoughts and prayers and with Max’s family, friends and team mates at this sad time.

Following the tragic passing of teh Birkenshaw Bluedogs ARLFC and Cleckheaton RUFC, the management committee of Birkenshaw Bluedogs have confirmed this Saturday’s Gala at the clubs East Bierley ground will go ahead as planned.
Club Chairman Adam Lincoln said “We are all incredibly shocked and saddened at the loss of our friend and team-mate, however we strongly believe that Saturday’s event should take place in Max’s honour. Max died playing agame he loved, and we believe that he would want the day to go ahead. Coming together on Saturday, as a club and a community, will be a wonderful way to say his name, honour his memory and continue to support all thoseaffected by this tragedy”.
All age groups will be playing during the day and Max will be acknowledged at the start of each game.
In direct tribute to Max, there will be a recently arranged Master’s game between Birkenshaw Bluedogs and Cleckheaton RUFC.
