Local MP welcomes Stadium redevelopment plans

Greg Mulholland MP, MP for Headingley and a Vice President of the Leeds Rhinos Foundation has welcomed the plans for the redevelopment of Headingley Carnegie Stadium.

Commenting on the decision by Leeds City Council's planning committee regarding the future developments of Headingley Carnegie Stadium, Mullholland said: "I am very pleased to see that the transformative redevelopment of Headingley Stadium in Leeds, one of the world's most iconic and famous sporting venues, has been approved.

"This redevelopment is hugely important for all three clubs, Yorkshire County Cricket Club, Leeds Rhinos and Yorkshire Carnegie, for sport in Leeds and Yorkshire and also for the local economy. The improvements will secure cricket test status for Headingley, allowing our city to continue hosting cricket of the highest level, whilst the essential replacement of old stands and seating will  give Leeds Rhinos a ground fit for one of the country's – and the world's – top rugby clubs.

"Yorkshire County Cricket Club have committed to work with Leeds City Council and the local community to ensure a minimum of disruption during the works and a close and relationship with residents once the stadium has been redeveloped and I will give my support to this".
