Who will the Rhinos face in the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup draw this Thursday morning?
The Ladbrokes Challenge Cup sixth round draw will take place live on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme on Thursday April 21, from 8.30am and here we take a look at the other 15 teams in the draw alongside the Rhinos.
Leeds Rhinos enter the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup in the next round and here we take a look at their potential opponents in the Sixth Round.
Of the fifteen possible opponents, ten are Super League sides with Batley, Halifax, Toulouse, Dewsbury and Oldham making up the draw. A draw against Oldham, who caused a major shock with victory at last year's runners up Hull KR on Saturday, would be a first Cup meeting between the sides since 1971 when Leeds won 49-2 in the First Round. Oldham of course were in Super League for the first two seasons in 1996 and 1997 so it is 19 years since the last meeting.
Whilst Leeds have never played Catalans in the Cup, they are regular opponents in Super League. The longest gap between fixtures could be a potential clash with Batley. Leeds have not played the Bulldogs in any competition since 1983, when Leeds won 30-14 at Mount Pleasant in the Yorkshire Cup. The last Challenge Cup meeting was in the First Round of the victorious 1977 Challenge Cup winning run.
On the flip side, Leeds and St Helens have become regular opponents in the Challenge Cup in the summer era. Although the sides have met in five Grand Finals they are yet to meet in the Challenge Cup Final in the Super League years although including 1999 they have clashed eleven times in 17 seasons, including last year's semi final.
The Rhinos are hoping to become the first team since St Helens in 2008 to win the Challenge Cup in three successive seasons. The last team to beat Leeds in the Challenge Cup were Huddersfield Giants back in 2013 in the Fifth Round at the John Smith's Stadium.
