Star alongside Jamie Jones -Buchanan in new play 'Leeds Lads'

Jamie Jones-Buchanan is set to star alongside 40 local Leeds actors in new community play about city’s inspiring role in Battle of the Somme.

Coinciding with the centenary anniversary of the Battle of the Somme, Leeds theatre company Red Ladder, Carriageworks Theatre and Leeds Civic Arts Guild present a new play Leeds Lads, following a young woman’s journey into Leeds’ secret past – this vibrant production transports audiences from the turmoil and tensions of war, to the richly multi-cultural city we know today.

This brand new play features a cast with 40 local actors and musicians who will take to the stage alongside Jamie Jones-Buchanan, who makes his stage debut.

Leeds Lads is a new play about the people of Leeds, past and present – their fears, their love and their friendships, performed by the people of Leeds today. Selected through open audition, the community cast will have the opportunity to perform and learn about professional theatre under the direction of Red Ladder’s Artistic Director, Rod Dixon working in collaboration with Antony Clavane and Nick Stimson – the writers behind the acclaimed Promised Land.

Tickets went on sale following an announcement at the Leeds Rhinos Boxing Day match against Wakefield Wildcats, as Red Ladder further builds its relationship with Leeds Rhinos following on from their performance of Playing The Joker at Headingley Carnegie stadium in 2014.
