Plume looking forward to U19 test in Perpignan

Chris Plume has been assistant coach at the Rhinos for six seasons

Chris Plume says the Rhinos Under 19s will get a great deal of benefit from their trip to Perpignan this weekend to face Catalan Dragons as a curtain raiser to the main event between the two sides.

Leeds Rhinos Assistant Coach Plume is set for a busy day this Saturday as first he coaches the Under 19s before switching his attentions to the Super League clash at Stade Gilbert Brutus.

The Rhinos travelled to Perpignan last year in pre-season but this will be the first time that they have travelled with the first team squad for a double header between the two clubs.

Looking ahead to the game, Plume said, "We were lucky enough to take our Under 19s there on tour last year for a couple of weeks so it won't be a completely new experience for most of the team. The lads will enjoy the experience and the chance to play against a meaningful Catalan team. We set the wheels in motion for this trip when we went over there and I think it is important for both teams that they get to play each other on a home and away basis this season. It is going to be a long day for the lads, they will set off at 5.45am on Saturday morning but that is something they will need to deal with.

"It will be good for them to spend a match day with the first team squad and see how they prepare for a game. We have seen in recent weeks Ashton Golding and Ash Handley break in to the first team squad and I always tell all the players that they are not as far off as they perhaps think they are, as long as they train hard and play well. Ash did a great job the other night and I was pleased for him that he scored on his home debut," added Plume.
