Rhinos thank Leeds Irish community for massive St Patrick's hit

Leeds Rhinos would like to thank all those from the Leeds Irish community who helped make Friday night’s win over Wigan such a special occasion.

The match was the culmination of the celebrations in Leeds around St Patrick’s Day which started with the parade into Millennium Square six days earlier. Boys and girls from across Leeds took part in a spectacular Irish dancing display before the game and at half time with dancers from five local dancing schools inElizabeth McCleave School, Rowland Watson Academy, Noonan School, Joyce O'Donnell School and Tierney School all taking part. We also had traditional Irish music from Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann before the game kicked off and they also kindly offered to perform in the Long Bar post match as well as an Irish flag pitch parade at half time representing all the counties of Ireland.

Head of Marketing Abigail Furniss commented, “We owe a massive thank you to all the groups who volunteered their time and efforts to make Friday night so special. The committee who organise all the St Patrick’s Day celebrations in Leeds do a tremendous job, they spend all year planning and organising the events and they are always keen to get the Rhinos involved. It was fantastic to see so many youngster from the city getting involved in Friday’s game whether playing music, dancing, doing the pitch parade or involved in the half time Rugby League games. As well as those involved on the pitch, there were hundreds more who came along to the game to be part of the atmosphere.

“We are always looking for partners to work with us to enhance our matchday experience and would encourage any group who would like to get involved to get in touch and we will see how we can incorporate their activity into our matchday routine,” added Furniss.
