Steve Prescott Foundation Trio take on walking Challenge

Three heroic Steve Prescott Foundation supporters will attempt to walk from Hull KR to all Rugby League grounds on the M62 corridor.

Shaun “Geordiesaint” Kelly, Lisa Jewitt and Ash Wheldon started the walk on Wednesday morning 25th September from Craven Park at 8am. They will be joined by Nicky Franks and Andrew “Wolfie” Pahlen who are taking part in the first five days, Paul Griffiths and Leam Fox will be joining from Huddersfield to finish off the last five days in the quest to reach the grand final on October 5th.

Saints Legend Tommy Martyn, Chief Executive Mike Rush and ground safety officer John Murphy will join the trio, walking From Leeds to Keighley on the Saturday and from Keighley to Bradford on Sunday.

Over 60 rugby league fans inspired by Steve Prescott will also be taking part in single days of the walk including Mark Hudson and fellow HM Armley prison officers and a team of 12 from Planet Kids Nursery in St Helens.

Unfortunately the inspirational Steve Prescott MBE has been unable to lead the walk as he did in 2007 & 2008 as he is currently receiving on going treatment for Pseudomyxoma Peritonei which he was diagnosed with in 2006.

Steve explained “I am gutted that I cannot join in on the walk. Since the Engage Mutual Race to the Grand Final that took place last October, my condition has significantly deteriorated, I have suffered from numerous infections and recently I have had further knockbacks with a blocked kidney, perforated bowel and fluid on my lungs. I have moved to Oxford Hospital for more specific care. I am confident that I will be able to bounce back and carry on fundraising to help those less fortunate than myself.

“It is going to take a great deal of time and I am thankful that the Try Assist Fund has supported me and my family through this trying period. The work of the Steve Prescott Foundation must carry on. I am so pleased to see that people are still taking part in extraordinary events under the SPF banner. I would like to thank all who are taking part in the Walk Against Cancer and urge all the rugby league community to join in and support the fantastic efforts from Lisa, Shaun and Ash!

“Mentally the walk is probably the most challenging I have faced and it helps to see new faces and meet new people.”
