Rhinos celebrate launch of new Scholarship season
Last week the Rhinos Academy celebrated the launch of the 2013-14 Scholarship season with a presentation night for the club’s under 16s players.
It was another successful launch with over a hundred guests attending to see the Scholarship players welcomed back for the new season and then presented with their new kits. The club were also pleased to introduce thirteen new signings who have been recruited for the upcoming season.
Head of Youth Development Barrie McDermott hosted the event and there were also presentations by Jamie Jones Buchanan, who himself has come through the club’s Academy system. Jamie covered the demanding and rewarding journey that the Academy players were now undertaking. There was also a presentation from Dr Ben Jones, the Academy Strength and Conditioning Coach, who spoke about the importance of nutrition and personal discipline and effort.
Following on from the speakers the 32 highly rated Academy players were presented with this year’s training kit by Leeds Rhinos legends Carl Ablett and Rob Burrow, who are also part of the Scholarship coaching team.
Player Performance and Scholarship Manager Simon Bell commented: “The crop of talent in the room was exceptional and the club are very proud to have the squad they have assembled. We continue to look forward to a bright and exciting future of player development.”
This year’s new recruits are Cameron Smith, Harvey Whitely, Reece Chapman-Smith, Alex Ward, Jack Walker, Alex Young, Alex Sutcliffe, Kobi Blair-Adams, Tom Hall, Spencer Darley, Dyson Nicholson, Mikolaj Oledski and Lewis Jeffrey.
