Danny McGuire helps Leeds Mencap launch new partnership
Leeds Mencap a local charity that supports individuals and families with learning disabilities and Leeds Malmaison a boutique hotel have recently announced a powerful partnership that will see the two working together in a myriad of manners.
The partnership came about after Scott who works at Malmaison came to hear the great work of the local charity after Danny, Leeds Rhino super star donated his Man of the Match fee to the charity. Scott, who is a big Leeds Rhinos fan then got in touch with the charity and offered his support. The result is that Leeds Mencap is now the official charity of the year for the upmarket hotel and the two organisations are working together in a number of ways.
Danny who is an Ambassador at Leeds Mencap and regularly rolls his sleeves up to help at the Junior Youth Clubs said, “I’m really pleased that Malmaison have decided to support us in this manner. I know first-hand the difference this will make to children and adults with learning disabilities that use the Leeds Mencap services and I’m thrilled that I was able to help.”
The two organisations have come up with a number of ways in which they are able to support one another and include a Sports Quiz with a difference when Leeds Rhinos and other special local sporting stars come together in a battle of brain rather than brawn! The event which will focus on sport and sports stars from Leeds takes place on Tuesday 10th September with tickets to be going on sale directly from Leeds Malmaison by calling Kirsty Burnett on 0113 3981000.
Other highlights of the year include an exhilarating sky-dive on the 23rd June for 7 fearless jumpers who are literally ‘leaping for learning disabilities! Malmaison are also hosting their own individuals tea parties for the Leeds Mencap Six-Tea in which the charity hopes 60 tea parties will be organised throughout the year in aid of the charity’s birthday. A Leeds Mencap cocktail has been firmly instated within the modern Mal Bar, in which £1 of proceeds will go direct to the charity. Finally, staff at the hotel are also hoping to undertake a steps challenge in which individuals will be challenged to go the extra mile (or 10!) to raise funds for Leeds Mencap.
Anna Parsons General Manger of Malmaison Leeds said, “We are really pleased to be working alongside Leeds Mencap and Danny McGuire which is close to him. The partnership is new & exciting. All the staff within the hotel are delighted to be working with such a well-known charity in the local area. The work Leeds Mencap do is so valuable. The team are thrilled to be participating to raise funds for the charity and it is vital we support our local causes.”
Ruth Fawcett, Head of Fundraising & PR at Leeds Mencap said, “A big thanks goes out to both Malmaison and Danny McGuire both of whom have been fantastic in their support and enthusiasm! We have a great calendar of events coming up and are looking forward to working closely with Malmaison in order to better support the people of Leeds with learning disabilities.”
