Giants and Rhinos Stage 'Yorkshire's Main Event'

Huddersfield Giants and Leeds Rhinos have combined to challenge all Rugby League supporters to show the watching world that Rugby League is very much alive and thriving with an incredible ticket offer ahead of the game they are describing as ‘Yorkshires Main Event.’

The Tetley’s Challenge Cup 5th Round tie between Huddersfield Giants and Leeds Rhinos takes place on Saturday 11th May (kick off 2.30pm).

Tickets are on sale from 9am tomorrow until 6pm on Sunday 5th May for just £8 from both Leeds Rhinos and the Huddersfield Giants. All junior season ticket holders are free of charge (ticket required from the respective club’s ticket offices) and for any other under 16 the price is just £3.

Giants Managing Director Richard Thewlis said: “I am utterly fed up of reading negativity towards Rugby League so this is everyone’s chance to show the watching country what a great game Rugby League is. We all know that the economy is tough right now so £8 gives everyone the chance to come down to the John Smith’s Stadium and show your support not only for your chosen club and also for the game at large. Both the Rhinos and the Giants are at the top of our games and the sudden death nature of the Challenge Cup means it really is a vital do or die game for both clubs. As well as Rhinos and Giants lets urge all supporters to come down in their colours and show the country that in Yorkshire the game is proud of its heritage and keen to showcase itself for its number one Cup competition. In the bigger scheme we have a World Cup at the end of the year and we see this year as being pivotal for the game and one that has the potential for great things.

Our key message is you can pre-buy your ticket for Yorkshire’s Main Event’ for just £8 (adult and concession) until Sunday 5th May at 6pm so spread the word, get buying and lets see if we can make it a day to remember.”

Leeds Chief Executive Gary Hetherington backed the cut price ticketing plan ahead of ‘Yorkshire’s Main Event’: “The game is clearly the stand out fixture of the round and having been chosen by the BBC we have a great opportunity in a superb stadium to showcase our sport and put some real buzz into the Tetley’s Challenge Cup. It’s a unique price to pre buy and both clubs should be commended for such a bold move which hopefully will be supported by a big crowd and a great occasion.”
