Barrie McDermott proud of young stars

Leeds Rhinos Head of Youth Development Barrie McDermott has praised the club’s development coaches after five players from the clubs scholarship programme were included in the England Youth squad for the current series against France.

Four of the group have been included in the squad for the second test with Daniel Douglas missing out this time. The Youth squad fell to a closely fought 34-26 defeat in the opening Test against France on Good Friday and will be looking to level the series on Tuesday at Wakefield. McDermott commented, "This a tremendous achievement for the players on our scholarship but also an endorsement of the work our scholarship coaches have been doing with thewm over the last couple of years. Morgan Smith deserves a big pat on the back not only has he been selected in the team he has been given the responsibility of stand off in the year above. Well done to the players, Amatuer coaches and scholarship coaching team we are extremely proud of their selection."
