McDermott Pays Tribute to Rhinos Fans
Ahead of Friday’s play off trip to Warrington Wolves, Rhinos head coach Brian McDermott has paid tribute to the fans.
On a season which has seen some unexpected defeats in the league alongside a Challenge Cup Final appearance at Wembley and now a Grand Final Semi Final this Friday, McDermott said: “We’ve had some frustrations this season and that’s felt by everybody at the club; the players, staff, office staff and more importantly the fans and the vast majority of them have been hugely supportive and loyal. You don’t find out how good a group of supporters you’ve got until you have a season like we’ve had.
“The reception we get at Headingley Carnegie is massive for us and I see the lift it gives the players. There was a real energy from those travelling supporters at Friday’s game against Huddersfield. They were really loud and passionate and without a doubt that helped us defend our try line and probably helped save two tries at that end. The fans reaction after the game was pretty special too and made it a night to be remembered.”
Top placed Warrington chose Leeds in Sunday’s Club Call for their semi final game this Friday 30thSeptember at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, kick off 8pm. If Leeds win they will be the first club to achieve a place in the Grand Final from outside the top four.
“If that happens then not only would that be massive for the club, the players and the fans but it will also be huge for the sport.” said McDermott, “If fans have been saving themselves for anything this year then this is the game to turn out. We need everybody on board and everybody with us.”
