Indoor touch rugby set to get underway

The summer touch programme has now come to an end for another season. As the long cold, dark nights are now here we are moving our touch rugby programme to the indoor facilities at Soccer City (1, Benyon Park Way, Leeds LS12 6DP)

Our summer season has taken place at Abbey fields and has spanned 18 weeks. We have had a successful season culminating in an end of season knees up at the Milford Marlins club house, which was a fantastic evening with one of the referees winning the raffle and bagging himself a signed Leeds Rhinos shirt.

We have had a great turn out for the programme and have had players join us from the previous winter indoor programme as well as some local amateur clubs such as, Farnley Falcons Masters, West Leeds ARLFC, Milford Marlins, Stanningley ARLFC, East Leeds ARLFC and Farnley Falcons Girls Team as well as lots of new players who’ve joined us.

For all of you that don’t know what touch rugby is………
It’s a safe, fun, minimal contact, non-collision team sport similar to rugby. There are male, female and mixed teams, its cheap to play and easy to pick up. It was developed as a training tool for Rugby League in the 1970s but is now a sport in its own right.
It’s also a great way to get fit and meet new friends. A number of people have jumped on board with the Healthy Lifestyles scheme we offer and have lost loads of weight as well as gaining new levels of fitness. Two of our players have completed the full 18 week scheme and have lost a combined stone in weight!!!

Our new winter touch season kicks off on Tuesday 18th October 2011 and will take place at Soccer City again on a Tuesday evening at 19.00 and will cost £3 for 2 hours of rugby.
