Headingley Carnegie Insight
In this week’s edition of Headingley Carnegie Insight Leeds Rhinos Head Coach Brian McDermott looks ahead to this Sunday’s clash with Hull FC at Headingley Carnegie.
What pleased you about last week’s game against Huddersfield?
It was a good performance from us on a few different levels and I thought we started really strong. Credit to Huddersfield they came back and we found ourselves at 12-12 and right at the death of half time they scored a try and we probably lost momentum in the game but I thought we came out and showed real focus in the second half.
To lose momentum in a game after having had it and to gain it again, I think that was a big thing for us and we’re heading into the Play Offs having gained a lot of confidence from that. I thought it was a cracking game of Rugby League, it was very physical and there was some good stuff played.
How important will it be to play at Headingley Carnegie this week?
It’s going to be great to play in front of our fans. We had a massive travelling support at Huddersfield and I thought our fans were fantastic. There was a period just after half time where we had to bend our backs near our try line and repel everything that Huddersfield threw at us and to do that we needed to pick ourselves up off the floor under a state of fatigue and the noise and the energy that came from our fans I thought played a big part in us being able to do that.
How tough will Hull FC be this week?
Hull are a great team and I think they will be a great test for us on Sunday because we have beaten them a couple of times this year and I am sure they will be talking about that and they probably, by their own admission, didn’t have a great game for their final league game at home, so for a few reasons they will want to be good against us on Sunday and we are going to have to make sure we are ready for that. Hull will throw absolutely everything at us and we have to take all that and be better than that.
