Leeds City College Win Yorkshire College Mixed Touch Tournament

Leeds City College entered the Yorkshire Mixed Touch Tournament for the first time and walked away with the silverware.

In the warm up team looked well organised and focused on the task ahead. They progressed through their group stages with strong victories against Calderdale College and Selby College. Tries coming from Anna Love, Luke Teasdale, Jack Bussey, Nathan Cross and Sorrel Kidd

The final was against Prince Henry College, a team made up of attractive netballer players and Leeds Carnegie Academy players but this was no distraction for Leeds City College players. Prince Henry’s showed early nerves making an error with the ball in hand. Jack Bussey stamped his authority on the game with the first try of the game. Prince Henry recovered well with a try of their own.

Leeds stayed composed and patient after peppering Prince Henry’s line. They got their reward with Bussey scoring his second try of the game when linking up with promising Leeds Junior Academy hooker Luke Teasdale.

Leeds scored their third try of the game when Kelsey Armistead gave a crisp pass to impressive Sam Nichols to score in the corner. This try finished off a professional performance by Leeds with a 3-1 victory to walk away with the winning trophy.

Leeds City College Coach Jonny Wainhouse commented, “I was impressed with the attitude of all our players today; it became real a stamina test. A special well done to Kelsey Armistead and Anna Love who fitted into our squad extremely well and certainly did not look out of place.”
