Headingley Carnegie Insight
In this weeks edition of Headingley Carnegie Insight, Head Coach Brian McDermott looks ahead to the Rhinos clash with Warrington this Friday at Headingley Carnegie, kick off 8pm.
HOW HIGHLY DO YOU RATE WARRINGTON?
There is no getting away from the fact that they are a very good side who will come to Headingley Carnegie full of confidence after their run of results recently. The Wolves are potent with the ball and very strong defensively. We know that we are going to have to be very good on Friday night to compete with them and hopefully we will be able to come up with a performance that is worthy of a win.
ARE YOU PLEASED WITH THE FORM YOUR SIDE IS SHOWING AT PRESENT?
As a group we know that we are not quite where we need to be at present and, whilst I am not happy with that, I have to admit that it is not a huge concern for me. I don’t think any team can be very good from round 1 to round 27 and be able to compete for silverware come the end of the season. Clearly we have not been in great form since round one but the players have been working extremely hard over the last seven weeks to turn those results around and in the next fortnight we have a great opportunity against two of the side’s above us in the table. Whilst we may not be the form team in the competition, what we are is an improving side who are taking strides forward every week.
HOW IS YOUR SQUAD SHAPING UP?
We are hoping to have Danny McGuire and Brent Webb both available this week but we will probably need to make a late decision on both of them. In an ideal world we would probably give them another week but we don’t live in an ideal world and the guys know that they may need to play through the pain barrier. We will take advice from the medical staff before we make the final decision and won’t risk them if there is a danger of making the situation worse. Unfortunately we will be without Keith Senior which is a big blow. We have been missing some people already this season but there is no disguising that Keith’s injury is a big blow to us. He has been relatively injury free during his career but he will have to get used to life as an injured player and we will need to move on as well.
