Pitts pleased with try scoring performance
Leeds Rhinos prop Jay Pitts said he enjoyed playing his first full 80 minutes for the first team during their Carnegie Challenge Cup win over Crusaders
Pitts, making his first performance since the away game against Hull KR, came into the starting line up for Jamie Jones-Buchanan and earned praise from his Rhinos boss for his performance after scoring a try and making a wonder tackle to prevent Crusaders from scoring.
Speaking after the game Pitts said, “It’s about getting the win more than anything in the Challenge Cup. The first half we started off pretty steady and it took us a couple of tries to realise we were in the Challenge Cup and it’s a knockout competition so once we started to get that mindset we started to get a bit of momentum and I think we didn’t want half time to come as we had started kicking on but then injuries started kicking in.
“The boys stuck together though and we were able to roll out the win. No matter how tired we are we have that mindset that we can keep working. It was the first full 80 I have played for the first team so it was good and I enjoyed it. I haven’t scored since the first game when I came here in 2009 and I really enjoyed getting the try. It’s about keeping my place now so hopefully if I keep putting up these performances and doing what I have been told to do then I will be able to stay in the team.”
