Leeds teams progress in Carnegie Champions Schools competition
Through a successful partnership between Leeds Rugby Foundation and Leeds & Hunslet Schools, thousands of secondary school age pupils have been given the opportunity to play Rugby League at school level.
Recently many teams from schools across Leeds have come together to play in the local qualifying stages for the Carnegie Champion Schools Rugby League Competition.
In a very entertaining and well contested Year 8 tournament Priesthorpe emerged as winners, beating Lawnswood by three tries to two in the final.
These two schools, along with last year’s top sides Bruntcliffe and Woodkirk will now go onto represent Leeds & Hunslet in the regional competition.
The Year 7 tournament was an even closer competition overall with John Smeaton defeating Temple Moor in the final. David Young Community Academy beat Woodkirk for third place and these four sides will progress to the regional stages.
Jonny Wainhouse, Community Development Office for the Leeds Rugby Foundation commented “I am delighted that Leeds schools are progressing on to the Carnegie Champions Schools competition and wish them all good luck.”
