The Wombats to entertain Super League Grand Final crowd
Top Indie rock band The Wombats will headline the pre-match entertainment at the 2009 engage Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford, Manchester, on Saturday October 10.
The Liverpool-based trio, who were last year named ‘Best Dancefloor Fillers’ at the prestigious NME Awards, will perform hits from their best-selling album A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation.
Appearing alongside The Wombats will be All Angels, the best-selling classical-pop crossover group who are fresh from supporting soprano Katherine Jenkins on her UK tour.
The Wombats will be playing their biggest gig since they played at Wembley Stadium in August before the FA Community Shield between Manchester United and Chelsea.
Their hits include Let’s Dance To Joy Division and Moving To New York and the RFL’s Marketing Manager Phil Williams is confident The Wombats will prove to be a massive hit with the Grand Final crowd.
“Some fantastic bands have performed at Old Trafford on engage Super League Grand Final night and I’m sure The Wombats will have the stadium rocking just like Scouting For Girls, Madness and Deacon Blue did,” said Williams.
“All Angels will perfectly complement both The Wombats and the occasion. Their rendition of the Grand Final anthem Jerusalem is certain to be a highlight of the evening.”
