Sponsor aims big for charity

Martin Pickles from the famous Flying Pizza restaurant on Street Lane in Leeds is hoping he can be a success just like his favourite Leeds Rhinos team as he looks to raise money for two great causes.

Martin sponsors the Man of the Match prize at home matches at Headingley Carnegie and it is going to take a Herculean effort from the restaurateur to complete his next challenge. He is going to try and raise funds for two causes by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro with a team of 11 friends in September.

He explained why he chose the two charities, he said, “The “Think Pink" Breast Cancer Research cause is very close to our hearts at the Flying Pizza and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance is an incredible service, it is entirely funded by charitable donation – with no state money.

“My niece Georgina was thrown from her horse last March and fell into a coma for almost two weeks. She was flown to Leeds General Infirmary by Air Ambulance and remained there for several weeks. Thank God, she made a full recovery. The "golden time" the helicopter provided must have made a huge difference.

“If I manage to raise £6,000 for the helicopter, this will provide finance for just one day! What if it were the one day you or your loved ones needed the Air Ambulance?

“So please sponsor me now. I’ve never asked before and I don’t think I will be asking again!!! If you have any queries at all, please contact me on 0113 266 6501. Thank you,” added Martin.

The Rhinos team recently call in to see Martin and wish him well with his challenge. You can donate to the walk through Justgiving. It is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor Martin: The New Victoria Medical Foundation gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
