Ronnie the Rhino and the engage Super League trophy will be at the official turning on of the Wetherby Christmas Lights tonight. The event coincides with the 30th anniversary of Wetherby’s now celebrated Christmas lights and the start of late night shopping on Thursday’s throughout December which will see businesses stay open until 8pm. On switch-on night there will be children’s entertainment and an early visit from Father Christmas in the market square too. The community event has been organised by members of Wetherby Business Association and Harrogate-based advertising agency ellisadvertising. It demonstrates how Wetherby traders are fighting back against the economic downturn that is currently engulfing the country.
