The Rhinos Gillette Academy missed out on the end of season play offs by the finest of margins after suffering last day heartache against Huddersfield on Sunday. The Rhinos had defeated the same opposition five days earlier at Morley RUFC and even a late switch to Stanningley, after Huddersfield could not find an available pitch, could not prevent them from missing out on the top six. However, the fact that the young Rhinos came so close to making the play offs was a remarkable achievement given the disastrous start to the season they suffered, losing their first four games with an inexperienced side. The lessons that Chris Plume and his side have learned this season will stand them in good stead for future campaigns. The game was always going to be a close affair with both sides knowing that defeat, coupled with a victory for Wakefield at home to Hull KR, would see them miss out on a shot at the Grand Final. The scores were locked at 10-10 at half time however the Giants managed to break the strangle hold after the interval and ran out 30-16 winners. The Rhinos try scorers were Tim Scire, Brooke Broughton and Lewis Jones whilst Jack Carvill kicked two goals.
