Carnegie Challenge Cup finalists Hull FC, Hull KR, Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and Huddersfield Giants join Brian McClennan’s men in Rugby League’s newest event. The nine-team competition also sees representation from The Army, Cumbria, Leeds Met University whilst Rhinos’ centre Michael Ratu, currently on loan at Halifax, will be spearheading a Fiji UK side made up of some of best UK based Fijians, who love the free-flowing style of nines rugby. "The competition is starting to gather momentum as all the clubs start putting their finishing touches to their squads," said Event Director Lionel Hirst. The Carnegie Nines also revives the tradition of the Headingley 7s, which was staged at Headingley Carnegie Stadium between 1965 and 1978, and provided high-energy league action for fans. Hirst added, "Headingley Carnegie is the perfect setting for the tournament. We are hoping for a bumper crowd and for the Rugby League public to enjoy a top night of exciting action on the field. "Rugby League Nines is an exciting concept and the Carnegie Floodlit Nines offers an eclectic mix featuring some of the best players in the engage Super League and the emerging talent of players who can make a real impact in this form of the game." The tournament is part of Carnegie’s Carnival week of top class Rugby League culminating in the Carnegie Challenge Cup Final, when St Helens take on Hull FC at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 30 August. The draw for the tournament takes place on Friday evening and will be announced during the half time interval of the engage Super League match against the Bulls. Ticket prices for the event are £10 for adults. Children under 16 will gain free admission when accompanied by a full paying adult.
